MATT MCTEAGUE, COLUMBUS THERAPIST

ABOUT ME

I’m Matt McTeague, a Columbus Therapist and Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW-S), and counselor in Columbus, Ohio. I work with people seeking treatment for addiction and dependence, anxiety and depression, as well as eating disorders, body dysmorphia, personality disorders, and other mental health issues. Additionally, I help people with sexual identity, sexual orientation, and interpersonal relationship issues.

We all struggle with life and life’s uncertainties. In those times, it can be helpful to talk with a licensed professional.

As a therapist, I care deeply about providing a safe, non-judgmental space for reflection, honesty, and vulnerability. With my style of therapy, the aim is to help people overcome obstacles and self-imposed barriers they may face so that they can flourish in their personal lives. I'm an individual therapist that utilizes a multi-faceted approach to treatment that includes various types of therapeutic interventions including cognitive-behavioral (CBT), strength-based, person-first, solution-focused, and a direct reality-based psychodynamic style. At times effort and work outside of the session may be required.

All of my counseling services are provided in an ethical and professional manner. Although I cannot guarantee the end result, I am certain we can work together to find the best possible outcome.

MY EXPERIENCE

With an integrated approach that includes aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), I have helped people build healthy hearts and minds since 2009.

My counseling services are centered around providing a safe space - free of judgment - for reflection, honesty, and vulnerability. In both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs, I have witnessed people open up, discover their own self-worth and create change in all aspects of their lives and overcome their personal struggles. As a dedicated mental healthcare provider, I desire to see each individual discover their own self-worth by learning to cultivate courage & authenticity in all aspects of life.

MY EDUCATION

I am a caring and passionate professional who has devoted my career to working in addiction and mental health.

I earned an Associate of Arts degree at Columbus State in 2010, completing the Mental Health and Addiction Studies Program. I then earned Bachelor’s and Masters Degrees in Social Work from The Ohio State University in 2014 and 2016, respectively. At OSU, I focused on Behavioral Health, Substance Abuse, Treatment & Theory in Trauma-Informed Care, and personality and mood disorders.

My work as a counselor is influenced by a vast and varied list of psychiatrists, philosophers, and writers, including Thich Nhat Hahn, Rene Descartes, William R Miller, Wayne McCashen, Viktor Fankl, Brene Brown, Gabor Mate, and William Glasser.
